Preparing a good potjie is a matter of national pride, so expect some fierce competition and top-secret family recipes to feature in this event.

1.Best Stand (theme, layout, decor & space utilisation)
2. Spirit Award (songs, vibes, dressing up, attitude etc)
3. Best Potjie (judged on aroma, taste, uniqueness, best use of ingredients and accompaniments)
4. Best Potjie presentation for judging (table layout, crockery, cutlery, linine).
5. Best Overall Team (combo of 1 to 4)

Fires to be ready at 8am
Cooking to begin by 8am and no later than 9am
Judging to begin at 10am
Final Tasting, presentation, songs etc at 12:30
Any ingredients allowed, no pre-cooking permitted.
Marinating of meat is allowed prior to event.
Use Oxtail at your own risk!

Please note that no open fires are permitted in this event. Potjies must be cooked on gas or on a Weber, or in a half drum.
Maximum of five people per team. Entries capped at 10 teams.
Please note, this event requires sign-up and payment in advance.

RULES
  • All the potjies must be prepared from scratch on the day of the competition.
  • All food must be cooked in a traditional cast iron Dutch pot or potjie.
  • No open fires on the ground allowed. Half drums and/or Gas only.
  • All cooking to be completed and ready for presentation by allocated times.
  • Ensure your Company Name and team name is visible to judges and other participants.
  • Max of 20 Entries.
  • Once the judges have tasted each Potjie entrants can then sell portions of their potjie for the public to taste.
